Description
How can industrial design help to counteract the trend towards „Buy, Use and Throw away“? By enabling the user to carry out simple repairs / replace parts and components independently to extend product life cycles.
Prototyp Espresso exemplifies what this could look like with an automated espresso machine created from scratch. It is designed to be transparent, simple and comprehensible, the user himself can maintain without special expertise or tools. The parts are either plugged in or round and screwed in place. Only standard parts from a portafilter machine group head and grinder burrs are mounted with screws. Little hints like matching thread colors simplify the process even further. With a machine whose construction is easy and fun like a puzzle, the user is motivated to maintain and develops a connection to the product.
