Retroscan
Retroscan
Name(s) of graduate(s):Michelle Likkej
2026
Description
Retroscan examines nostalgia as a digital and technologically shaped phenomenon. In an accelerated media world, memories are increasingly reconstructed, aestheticized, and disseminated through social networks, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. The project questions how these technologies influence our perception of the past.
The interactive website combines theory & design. Through a hover interaction, hidden layers with analyses and information can be discovered. 3D-modeled objects, abstracted own imagery, pop culture references, as well as self-developed AI-generated scenes make nostalgia tangible as a constructed, repeatable & manipulable concept.
The website is complemented by a magazine that translates the content into a print medium, as well as an augmented reality application with additional interactive layers. This creates a multimedia overall concept that connects digital & analog media.
