Production-Related Aesthetics in Porcelain Production
Description
In “Processual Aesthetics”, traditional processes for porcelain were questioned and modified on an experimental level. A process was developed using a new type of glaze or slip application directly onto the plaster mold in order to transfer this layer onto the porcelain object with the following solid casting. The process and location of the 'Beschichteten Vollguss' was the focus. With this development, three new surfaces can be transferred to porcelain during the molding process. The merging of glaze and porcelain slip as a procedural intervention allows direct glaze firing of the porcelain at 1280°C and provides energy savings. The work dealt with the potentials within porcelain production. The base for this was a detailed experimental archive, which provokes the traditional slip casting in material, technique and workflow. Porcelain has an incredible amount of potential and it is time to show it.
