PLASTIC HUMANS
Your Concentration Your Form
Description
The Plastic Humans project investigates the presence of microplastics in the human body and questions the long-term consequences of this invisible burden. In a speculative future scenario, microplastics are released during the natural decomposition of the body after death. To prevent further contamination, the bodies are cremated, the plastic-contaminated remains are analysed, and transformed into novel urns.
The Plastic Human consists of the three highest concentrations of microplastics found in the human body. Each type of plastic has its own shape. The combination of science, design, and speculative narrative makes the invisible threat of microplastics visible and aims to encourage reflection on the potential consequences of our consumer behaviour.
Plastic Humans is a critical examination of the traces we leave behind — and of a future in which humans themselves become plastic products.
