Description

The muscles of the mouth are essential for clear and precise speech. Controlling the muscles helps to control the intonation and stress of words, to coordinate swallowing and chewing, as well as articulation and facial expression. ‘Ormo’ is a tongue joystick which, in addition to speech therapy, helps to train oral motor skills in a playful way, helping children and adults with speech impairments to compensate for speech and swallowing deficits. The design focuses on ergonomics and usability, deliberately avoiding a childlike design. ‘Ormo’ is a combination of a game and a medical product, and is customised using an app and various silicone attachments. The app provides exercises, games and progress measurements that can be used for speech therapy treatment. ‘Ormo’ is a playful way to strengthen the tongue muscles, supporting the development and improvement of speech.
