Description
On 6 June 1942, Adeline Gray jumped from a height of 762 metres to test the first nylon parachute. Before then, parachutes had been made from silk and cotton. Gray became known for her courage and enthusiasm as a parachutist. The aesthetics of the parachute—from the cords to its voluminous, transformable forms—serve as the inspiration for this work. A lacing system gives the textile objects a movable quality. Angular, box-like shapes take on an organic character, while gathers create structured surfaces. A long skirt can be adjusted into a short one. The individual pieces have a modular character and can be connected with one another.
