Description

How much can a stone tell you? As a surrounding space, the stony environment is the fundamental building block of human development, chemical reactions, and today’s technology. And yet it is limited – it does not grow back. Rock is much more than a mere raw material. It is a repository of the present and at the same time an archive of past times. Thus, a tool of human progress becomes a storyteller that never remains silent. With the help of an interactive spatial design, three stones become storytellers of their respective eras. Their stories span an arc from the Carboniferous period to the present. It all begins around 100 million years ago: under the pressure of swampy surfaces, different types of rock are formed. About 150 years ago, they were brought to the surface by humans along with the coal as so-called minor seams. Another 100 years later, deprived of their original function, they lie unused above the ground and wait for their moment!
