Description
New Sources is a case study using leftover materials from the wood industry through an interconnection of 3d-scanning, computational design and robotic manufacturing. The chair works as a display for the scalable production process, that can be applied to various geometries. The irregularity of the material makes each object unique. Precisely milled surfaces and edges contrast with the raw branch surfaces and illustrate the intersection between nature and technology. Birch bark is partially preserved and becomes a natural ornament to keep the original character of the material. It provides an alternative solution to counteract the increasing deforestation and furthermore questions the standardization of natural grown materials in the domestic environment.
