Description

As part of my bachelor thesis, I conducted interviews with regional industrial companies, including Reiling Glasrecycling. The company gave me insights into the challenges of glass processing, particularly regarding the residual material produced during the recycling process, which, with a grain size of 1–2 mm, resembles sand. Glass cannot be broken down by nature, which is why it needs to be rethought to enable sustainable use and prevent landfill disposal.

A central component of my work involves experiments to transform glass waste into valuable resources. My goal is to create a new resource that enters an additional life cycle and establishes a sustainable circular system. The concept of the Cradle-to-Cradle system accompanied me throughout the project.

Within the ten weeks of my bachelor thesis, I was able to produce the first panels made from recycled glass. Therefore, research on this material will be continued in a targeted way.
