MY-CO
Materialforschung im innenarchitektonischen Kontext
Description
What if spaces could grow instead of being built?
The thesis ‘MY-CO’ explores the transformative potential of mycelium composites as living, circular materials for interior architecture. Using the example of the episcopal wineries of Trier, a site-specific design concept emerges, combining theoretical approaches with experimental material research.
At the core is an innovative, 3D-printable biomass-fungus composite material based on spent grain, a by-product of regional beer production. Its composition allows for a high degree of dimensional stability, even after dehydration, and opens up new possibilities for creative practice.
Based on extensive material testing, a range of applications is developed that takes into account the qualities and limitations of the material: modular elements for the retail sector, acoustically effective surfaces, and sculptural installations for exhibition design.
