Description

This work explores the use of an industrial robot arm for digital rotational molding in a design context. Material filled into a mold is swung by a robot arm in pre-programmed movement patterns until it has completely solidified. This allows specific areas of the mold to be cast in a targeted manner and different objects and variants to be produced with the same mold. The atypical rotations and movements and the resulting irregularities promote serial individuality.

This is presented by way of example with a vessel collection cast from polymer plaster. Multicast shows the creative potential of a digitally controlled process with a result that is not entirely predictable.
