Accessible Urban Mobility: A Study of Inclusive Personal Transportation
Description
Mobility means freedom — yet many people are excluded from access to personal transportation. The original MINI already addressed this challenge: its efficient design enabled broad social participation.
Due to demographic changes, one group in particular will suffer from mobility loss in the future — older people and those with limited mobility. My thesis explores how design can reduce both physical and social barriers and enable greater quality of life regardless of age or health.
In collaboration with BMW AG, a concept was developed and realised as a physical model. The work highlights existing obstacles and, with the brand’s characteristically friendly design, presents a distinct, positively framed solution.
The thesis demonstrates how, in the future, personal mobility for everyone can become reality through an empathetic and inclusive design approach.
