Description

Making Something from Some Things objectifies the potential of female creative production in caring in and with domestic space. Lizzy Ellbrück addresses creative labour as an artistic practice and relates to domestic space as an emancipatory site of negotiation. She modifies objects into overtrained and -stylized things that stimulate somatic effects, correct posture, discipline the body, quote or adorn it, and become props of a facelift, coordinates of a search for identity. Things like dust catchers*, acupressive stools, breaded boxes, hairy soaps, fascia vases, conspiratorial bra closures, or a curtain made of hair. The Somethings were exhibited at the Badischer Kunstverein and inventoried in a publication. Detailed descriptions, peculiar wordings, and inventory lists highlight the obsessive aspect of ordering, categorizing, and rearranging.
