Description
In view of our planet’s ecological limits and the ongoing acceleration of consumption, my work offers a systematic solution that uses design to enable new patterns of consumption and foster a culture of preservation. This requires not only adaptable, modular and flexible furniture, but also its integration into circular systems of use.
Using the design of a bed that grows with its user, my approach demonstrates how many resources can be saved when furniture is no longer designed according to a linear model, but instead in a way that allows components to be refurbished and passed on. This maximises the potential of each individual component and reduces overall production. Users gain access to higher quality for the same financial investment, while also benefiting from all the individual adaptation options that would previously have required purchasing a new product. In this way, bulky waste is avoided and resources are conserved without requiring users to compromise.
