Description
This bachelor’s thesis develops an interactive, modular light installation addressing marine pollution, with a focus on microplastics and their impact on coral reefs. The aim is to make the ecological fragility of marine habitats emotionally tangible and to encourage reflection on human responsibility. At its core is the phenomenon of coral bleaching. Under stress, corals lose their symbiotic algae, causing their tissue to become transparent, while fluorescent proteins produce a final, intense glow. This serves as a symbol of both beauty and loss.
Methodologically, this phenomenon is translated into an interactive light installation. Touching the lampshade triggers an animation that visualises the process of coral death and involves the user as an active part of the system.
The installation is made from recyclable, 3D-printed PET and follows the principles of circular design. The inside of the lamp contains water.
