Description

The developed mobility aid aims to replace classic crutches, which until now have hardly been adapted to the natural human movement sequence, with a biomechanically optimized system that is functionally oriented toward the human foot and actively supports the user during locomotion. Through a mechanical axis and freely suspended carbon leaf springs, the crutch can absorb, store, and specifically release energy when stepping down. This creates a dynamic, forward-supporting movement that reduces energy expenditure while simultaneously cushioning shock loads on the hands, shoulders, and back. The progressive spring structure adapts in a controlled manner to different loads and enables a more natural and comfortable walking experience. In addition, the modular system can be individually adapted to different users, body weights, and rehabilitation phases.
