‘No longer a piece of wood’ is a design object consisting of 318 photographs and selected quotes that explores prostheses and related forms of body extension. The starting point is the technical development of artificial body parts and their advancement to today’s technically complex systems. The work shows the diversity of different prosthesis models and makes visible how closely body, technology, and social ideas are interwoven with one another.
The basis of this project was interviews with people who wear prostheses themselves. The title ‘No longer a piece of wood’ is a quote from one of these conversations and refers to the development process of prostheses.
