Inter-Aktiv
Dialogue with a Material
Description
With “Inter-Activ“ I followed a material-oriented design approach, focusing on the question of how the relationship between material and designer can be reconceptualized so that they interact throughout the process of shaping an idea. The project is an attempt to de-hierarchize the design process by removing myself as the design protagonist and giving the material its own role in the design. During a dynamic dialogue with yarn, I created woven material-form experiments from paper, lyocell, wool and bast fibres such as linen/jute. I concentrated on high-twisted wool yarn and discovered that it has great potential to be used as a sustainable alternative to spandex. This series of experiments exemplifies an appreciation for materials as an active design tool and inspires a change of perspective in design thinking.
