Description

My project design for a height-adjustable desk for children and adolescents aims to create a defined retreat and concentration space within the structure of family living — essentially, a space within a space. The piece of furniture allows the desk to effortlessly ‘grow’ along with the user and supports the need for changing user positions, as required spontaneously for creative work, learning, reading, and media use — a solution developed in contrast to the usual technical principles of height adjustment, operating without electricity or pneumatics.

The presented design ‘høj’ (high) raises and lowers by means of a counterweight balanced to the tabletop within the gears. The concentrically and linearly guided lifting axes allow the desk to be easily and continuously adjusted in height and locked into place. The construction aesthetics and the staged mechanical lifting principle were deliberately chosen.
