When people speak of heat today, it is rarely a good sign. Heat changes everything it touches. It destroys, but it also creates. Exactly where heat becomes unbearable, something new begins. In craftsmanship, it creates new forms, something useful and beautiful.
This book focuses on a practice with a long history and an uncertain future. A look at what allowed our civilization to emerge: heat and craftsmanship.
The focus is on the materials clay, metal, and glass, as well as the people who work with them. Cultural-historical research and photographic insights into workshops in the Munich and Ammersee region show: without the people who work with heat every day, there is no craft. Without heat, no new forms.
In a quiet, reduced form, content and materiality intertwine to create a book about transformation and working with the uncontrollable.
