Description

My work titled “Hasardspiele” (Games of Chance) deals with the visual manipulation by slot machines. These machines are basically masterfully designed surfaces that pursue only a single goal: to tie people to the screen for as long as possible and to extract money from their pockets. Compared to other forms of gambling, the psychological trap here is constructed in a particularly insidious and malicious way.

The worst part about it is that the weakest members of our society are targeted and exploited here. It is not without reason that slot machines are primarily located where poverty is high and prospects are poor. It is a system that thrives on the lack of prospects and systematically threatens livelihoods. People from a migration background are particularly often affected. Anyone who does not speak the language perfectly or was simply not informed about the perfidious mechanisms of the slot machine industry falls into this trap almost defenselessly.
