Lucia Antonia Kempe reflects on the representation and relevance of left-wing protest movements of the 1990s in today’s political climate, using a self-created archive of documentary fragments and biographical traditions of her parents. With the question: “Is there a life before death?” she formulates the lettering: “There is a life before death”, which can be found in many places in the archive. In this way, the designer enters into an exchange with her parents and, between memory and the present, negotiates the passing on of political responsibility in the face of the shift to the right in Germany. The collection understands clothing as a medium of political resistance and memory.
The collection is guided by three narrative strands. The archive as a look into the past. The Moon Sheep by Christian Morgenstern as a mirror of the spaces of tension between hope and powerlessness in everyday life. And the protest as a union of the generation, which forms an appeal to stand up and act.
