Be more like nature — to adapt: this is the great challenge of our time, in order to create a promising future for ourselves on Earth. A utopia: to transform our cultures so that they are entirely compatible — perhaps even symbiotic — with nature.
Proven design solutions found in nature offer us inspiration and guidance for shaping a more natural environment. Exploring and imitating them is the central task of product design following my Re-Evolution Process.
The tableware series ‘Gaia in Wonderland’ is an example of a nature-imitating design result. Through research into natural shapes, materials, and processes suitable for a cup, the task emerged to produce tableware from a lime-based biomaterial using a 3D printing process. The aim is to borrow natural resources (from the living Earth ‘Gaia’) for human needs and temporarily integrate them into our culture (Wonderland).
