fundstück
Searching for Materials in Urban Space
Description
The project ‘fundstück’ uses bulky waste lying around in Berlin’s public spaces as a source of material to draw attention to the potential and value of used materials. As we live in a throwaway society, part of a linear system where products are generally disposed of at the end of their useful life, the work tells an exemplary story of how something seemingly worthless can be transformed into something valuable. The randomly found materials and objects have been transformed into individual objects that reinterpret and continue the history of the materials through redesign. In addition to the objects, the catalogue presents the found objects and their locations in Berlin. The aim is to inspire consumers and encourage them to make their own objects. The work is intended to contribute to an understanding of the objects and products around us as repositories of raw materials and to promote the use of secondary materials.
