Description

Freya is a speculum concept that reimages the gynecological examination — not just functionally, but above all humanly. The speculum used in gynecology today has hardly changed for over 150 years. For many patients, the examination is associated with anxiety, shame, and a feeling of vulnerability. Freya addresses exactly this.

A three-bladed opening mechanism combines insertion and opening into one fluid movement, which gently stretches the tissue and avoids abrupt spreading. The extended handle creates more distance between the medical professional’s hand and the patient’s intimate area. A hybrid material system of stainless steel and TPE combines stability, hygiene, and a pleasant feel.

The instrument is complemented by a rental principle: patients can borrow Freya before the examination to familiarize themselves with it in a familiar environment — and thus gain more control and security.
