Description

Every choir has lengthy discussions about performance attire. Most classical music choirs stick to the traditional black suit for men and long black attire for women, often mandating skirts or dresses. This conservative, gendered approach seems outdated, especially for choirs with mostly young singers.  The project’s goal was to design youthful, timeless, gender-neutral, size-adjustable outfits without petrochemical materials, allowing for individualization while maintaining a cohesive look. A survey helped understand the singers’ wants and needs. Size adjustability is crucial to accommodate size fluctuations and facilitate passing clothes to new singers. Inspired by historical petticoats, the trousers feature split sides at the top, tied to fit. This way the garment can mold to the wearer’s waist and hip measurements. The design already proves to fit a wide range of body measurements and to continue with the project, it will be tested on more diverse body types.
