FluidNest is a visionary concept of a liquid incubator for extremely premature babies in the 22nd to 24th week of pregnancy. In this period, they are at the limit of viability: even with modern neonatological care, mortality and the risk of severe impairments remain high. FluidNest proposes a sterile liquid environment in which the child is supplied via an artificial placenta and protected from light, dehydration, and mechanical stress while the lungs and organs mature. The design process focused on routines after birth, care, emergencies, and the contact between parents and child. This resulted in central elements: a dark patient capsule, a soft silicone bag for the child, interfaces for staff and parents, a mobile wheeled stand, and a manipulator arm. The project examines how future medical technology can be integrated into everyday clinical practice without losing sight of trust and safety.
