FLESH AS CURRENCY examines how platform economies, hypersexualization, and digital categories shape contemporary notions of body, desire, and visibility. The starting point is the app Grindr, in which people are organized via categories and filters. There, bodies do not appear as complex individuals, but as bodies reduced to attributes, preferences, and projections.
The project translates these mechanisms into material forms. Anonymous profiles become hybrid textile objects that arise solely from categories and attributions. Elements such as “Muscle”, “Tattoo”, “Bear”, or “Unicorn” merge into exaggerated silhouettes and posthuman beings between fashion, object, and speculative design.
With a touch of irony, FLESH AS CURRENCY makes visible how digital systems not only represent but shape bodies, and asks what remains of the human when bodies are increasingly organized through categories, desire, and visibility.
