Description

‚Familie Hempel‘ is a Hommage on the classic pile of clothes on a chair. It’s a collection of 4 members: A stool, a pouf, a bench, and a high seat, where you store clothes.

What is the Topic?

The classic pile of clothes on a chair- chair. Familie Hempel drags this kind of chair out of the grey area. The Chair where you put clothes on which are already worn but still not ready for the washing machine. The collection rebels against the pressure of a society which aims for a ‚Marie-Kondo-like‘ perfection. Familie Hempel provides space to be chaotic. The title is inspired by an old german saying, shouted out when somebody sees a messy room: „Bei dir sieht es ja aus wie bei Hempels unterm Sofa!“ („Your room looks like family Hempel’s place!“

Why does it look like this?

Its a form family. Every single piece has its own little detail but still a clear design language. The perfect contrast to the topic "chaos". The colors should inspire and bring a little variation to the usually stable colors in flats.

What is special?

The collection provides space to be chaotic. The Chair where you put clothes on which are already worn but still not ready for the washing machine. This chair looks like absolute chaos. But to be true: its pure organization. The only problem is that you can not use it as a chair. Familie Hempel comes up with a solution. You can sit on every piece of the collection and store clothes. Our ever- smaller livings spaces needs hybrids- Furniture with various functions. The focus was to use the different levels and unused spaces in furnitures. The design brings a bit humor in the usually seriousness way of the every day life and the pressure of a society which aims for perfection.

What is new?

The collection picks up on the idea of the classy valet stand or the chair full of clothes in our bedroom and gives various opportunities to store clothes. Familie Hempel provides space to be chaotic. A special focus is to use the different levels and unused spaces in furnitures. The high seat is higher than a barstool so you can see your flat out of a new position and get an overview for your chaos ( and perfect to hang a pair of jeans ) .
