Exploring Textiles

Description
The aim of my bachelor’s thesis was to give textiles a new meaning by integrating them into three-dimensional space and exploring the transition from flat textiles to objects. The appeal of the three-dimensional lay in the volume and tactile effect of textiles. As a link between textiles and space, I chose light, not only to address protection from sunlight but also to create shadow play.
My goal was to blur the boundaries between textiles and objects and to open up new design possibilities. The design tested the manipulation of flat textiles to emphasise their three-dimensionality and alter their light permeability. In the process, I developed a mechanism that made it possible to use textiles as malleable materials and explore their aesthetic and functional potentials.
