‘Explorer’ combines analogue principles of sound production with digital processing to create a hybrid sound design tool for collecting musical ideas on the go. The result is a tool that uses the qualities of a pen to transform the characteristics of different surfaces into unique sounds that can be recorded and layered in short loops. In this way, the project creates a new character for sound design and a new appreciation for the objects in our everyday environment. ‘Explorer’ enables professional users to create highly innovative sounds, while beginners will find a new approach to music production through intuitive pen interaction.
