Description

What can digital manufacturing look like in the home without a workshop? The use of digital manufacturing processes has become an integral part of everyday life for designers and product design students. Ideas are visualised digitally using computer programs and turned into real 3D objects using CNC machines. This bachelor thesis deals with the development of a CNC milling machine that is designed as both a desktop machine and a piece of furniture for the home. The aim is to make digital manufacturing more accessible to creative people. The design concept developed helps to realise ideas in model making and prototyping and produces precise, computer-controlled milling work in wood, plastic and light metal. The desktop version can be transformed into an aesthetic piece of furniture that blends seamlessly into the living space by adding a wooden carcass and mounting four cabinet legs.
