Description

A personal collection of family photos formed the basis for the project. This archive serves as a repository of memories. The photos are representative of family photos that almost everyone has. I hope that viewers of my work will recognise themselves in some of these moments.

The resulting textiles reactivate and explore the memories. They investigate ways of pixelating, shifting, or overlaying the photos. In this way, I aim to visualise the sensation of a dissolving, fading memory. The metaphor of pixelation is based on the functioning of autobiographical memory. Each time a memory is recalled, a slightly altered version is stored, leading to distortions over time. Just as autobiographical memory does not reproduce an exact image of the past, the textiles are a new interpretation of what once was.
