Der Trog
A Contactless Breath-To-Water Interface
Description
‘Der Trog’ is a contactless breath-to-water interface that uses computer vision to track breathing. The user approaches a water-filled object, sits on a chair and begins to breathe: the water responds with a wave-like movement. A thermal camera next to the object detects small temperature differences on the user’s skin and derives the breathing rhythm and intensity without contact. The trough is an approach to the holistic application of computer technology. How does contactless sensor technology, which can reach and translate the body at any time, fit into a future in which the digital and the physical can no longer be separated? How will our perception of our surroundings change if we can establish an embodied connection with materials and objects? How can AI expand human-machine and human-human interaction?
