How can a threatened handicraft be preserved? Instead of relying on museum conservation, the work deals with the transfer of the intangible cultural heritage of blueprinting (Blaudruck) into the modern era, placing active practice in the foreground. Since the traditionally used printing blocks (Model) can hardly be manufactured or repaired anymore, the work starts there and deconstructs their rigid form in order to open up the traditional process for the present. The Blau_Kasten is a modular tool system made of printing modules that can be provided with different plug-in elements. Combined into ever new motifs, individual textile prints can be created. Used in workshops, the system makes cultural heritage something that can be experienced. The intuitive use requires no prior knowledge and gives participants the opportunity to become creative and design their own motifs. In this way, active participation awakens an awareness of cultural heritage.
