The master’s project “DEMENZ RAUM GEBEN – Ein Handbuch für ein demenzgerechtes Zuhause” (GIVING DEMENTIA SPACE – A Handbook for a Dementia-Friendly Home) informs caring relatives about the possibilities of a dementia-friendly room design. Many relatives do not know that an adapted room design can promote the independence of those affected and thus ease the daily care routine. However, the individuality of the disease poses a major challenge, as there are no standard solutions, but rather a solution is needed that is heavily tailored to the needs. The aim of the handbook is not to prescribe solutions, but to teach relatives how to independently recognize problems and develop individual solutions themselves. Thus, the handbook guides relatives from theory through practice to space for their own adjustments and notes. The focus is always on not being a dry textbook, but rather on showing relatives the world of those affected with charming illustrations.
