CURLS & COILS
Modulare Tools für die Afrohaarpflege
Description
Black Hair Care is more than just a functional routine; it is deeply intertwined with identity, history & resistance.
In Germany, there is a lack of suitable products, infrastructure, and visible salon culture. Braiding sessions often take place in private spaces due to a lack of alternatives.
The aim of my design is to develop tools and setups that address the functional and emotional significance of Afro hair care.
Not adapted, but specifically and explicitly designed for the community!
The set consists of a tail comb, edge brush, and a setup system – modular, individually adjustable & compact.
The design was developed based on qualitative interviews with people from the community. CURLS & COILS products enable structured workflows and temporary salon moments in private spaces.
“Choosing to love Black hair as it grows from the scalp is an act of defiance.” – Channing Gerard Joseph (2022)
