Description

Clayo is an evaporative cooler designed for storing temperature-sensitive fruits and vegetables that are unsuitable for conventional refrigeration. The system consists of an outer vessel made of porous clay, with a limited amount of water poured into its base. A glazed inner container is inserted and held at the rim. As water evaporates through the clay surface, heat is drawn from the interior – creating a cooler environment that significantly extends the freshness and shelf life of the stored produce. The rounded shape was chosen to increase surface area, which in turn increases the evaporation rate. The cork lid serves as an additional storage surface and, thanks to its natural tannins, helps deter fruit flies. Clayo offers a power-free, sustainable alternative to conventional cooling systems and promotes a more mindful approach to food and resources.
