Description

Exoskeletons can reduce physical stress in the working world. Due to high requirements, they often consist of different materials and components that are difficult to separate. Using the example of a shoulder exoskeleton, the thesis investigates how circular design can be combined with ergonomic and functional requirements. The basis was a life cycle assessment as well as a dismantling and recycling evaluation. This showed potential in the textile components with regard to repairability and cleaning. Building on this, concept ideas were developed and tested as prototypes. The final concept is an easy-to-dismantle, additively manufactured hip belt, which makes materials and components prone to wear quickly accessible and replaceable. The additively manufactured padding simplifies cleaning, which can reduce emissions by up to 32% over five years. In addition, new potential for more individualization and ergonomics is created.
