Description
Cables are much more than just conductors of electricity, troublemakers and lettuce. Despite the increasing use of wireless devices, they remain an essential part of the infrastructure. They are often neglected in the design process and their potential as a design element is overlooked. Cable Mania therefore focuses on cables as a product element. The experimental object is used to create a variety of concepts through trial and error. Familiar ideas about cables are playfully questioned in order to discover and communicate new perspectives. The experiment with material, colour, form and function results in a six-part product collection. The results include a lampshade with an integrated plug, a set of tiles for organising cables on the wall, the multi-plug bouquet and a cable designed in ring loops that can be hung anywhere. Cable Mania offers new perspectives and communicative possibilities for incorporating cables into design.
