Description

‘Take her to the swimming pool on the first date…’ – this sentence from a meme reveals how deeply societal pressure around make-up is ingrained. This bachelor thesis examines make-up as a means of expression beyond superficial beauty ideals. The focus is on a critical examination of normative expectations, social pressure, and the ambivalent role of cosmetics in everyday life. Why is make-up often associated with superficiality, deception, or insecurity?

Based on theoretical analyses, surveys, and workshops, an interactive game was developed that uses make-up as a tool for empowerment. For 2–8 players, it encourages reflection and new perspectives through creative tasks, questions, and dialogue. ‘Beyond’ stands for thinking beyond what is visible – a creative invitation to engage with identity, diversity, and societal norms.
