Eine neuartige Sanitärkeramik
Description
The bathroom presents itself as a space of bodies and embarrassments. It wants to be smooth, clean, and wiped down. At the same time, it is a place of calm and privacy for us. The introspective, private, secluded aspects, the unofficial purposes of a bathroom, the view outside and into the walls have sparked my interest.
An intensive research process was followed by the conceptual development of a novel, speculative sanitary ceramic. Digital, generative methods replicate the form, structure, and logic of a seashell — a kind of design biomimicry. In the end, alongside an installation-like staging, there is a completed ceramic object, designed with manufacturability in mind, based on an industrial production model.
The bathroom shell offers an approach to breaking out of the highly standardised world of sanitary ceramics. It questions our cultural and personal practices — an everyday artefact from another world.
