A Sonic Graphic Experience
Objects Awoken
Description
What if objects began to speak in their own verbal language? This project gives a selection of ubiquitous graphic designs a literal voice. It proposes a system that translates two-dimensional shapes into human sounds. The Bouba/Kiki effect served as the starting point to identify twenty words ranging between Kiki and Bobo, assigned to the parameters of linear and curved, as well as acute-angled and obtuse-angled forms. The emphasis of the words was determined based on visual composition using the rule of thirds and the golden ratio in relation to pathos. Twenty prominent individuals lent their voices, each speaking one of the selected words in front of a microphone. For the exhibition, each object’s speech was determined according to the established rules. It could be heard via augmented reality. The reverse sides were screen-printed with design history information.
