Wurzelbrunft
Meat consumption in Bavaria
Description
Why is it so difficult for us to give up meat?
Although meat consumption in Germany has been declining for several years, we still eat too much — even though the ecological and ethical consequences are frequently discussed in public.
The aim of this project is to make meatless dishes appealing to people in rural regions of Bavaria without condemning their previous eating habits. This approach integrates plant-based foods more deeply into the region’s diet and cultural perception, thereby reducing meat consumption.
At ‘Wurzelbrunft’, a communal ritual centred around a dumpling takes centre stage. Participants can actively help shape the course of the celebration and thus create a new custom together. The enjoyable and sociable festivity demonstrates that vegan cuisine has far more to offer than mere ‘renunciation’.
