Description

The starting point of the design is light itself, which is made visible through abstract photographs of various light sources as well as through graphic and typographic means such as black-and-white contrasts, negative spaces, inverted type, and the deliberate use of surfaces and emptiness.
Inspired by the Japanese concept of “Ma”, emptiness is used as an active design element, as a pause, structure, and rhythm between light and darkness, image and text.

The result is an experimental book object at the intersection of research and design. It investigates, conveys, and makes light directly experiential as a physical, design, and cultural phenomenon through transparency and materiality. The transparent, polished, and engraved cover, inspired by Japanese paper walls, plays with light and permeability. Visible connecting elements make the construction comprehensible. In this way, content, design, and material merge into a single entity.
