Description

Teenage mobility in rural areas is often limited by inadequate transport offers. WeRide, a local, community-based ridesharing service, aims to improve this situation. WeRide brings together teenagers who need a ride and drivers willing to provide one. WeRide is app-based and designed to be operated by a public transport agency. What is special about WeRide is that it uses existing networks such as schools, but also village structures to establish trust among its users. Cooperation with other local stakeholders - church communities or local companies - also plays an important role. Within the app, trips can be organised in appropriate groups. This creates trust and additionally strengthens intrinsic motivation. WeRide is politically supported at state and district level as well as by public transport agencies.
