Description
Hearing impairments affect millions of people and limit much more than just hearing. They hinder social participation, especially in group conversations with multiple voices and rapid speaker changes. Existing hearing systems can overwhelm users by amplifying all voices or relying on automatic filtering, which removes the user’s control over which voices they want to hear – resulting in a loss of autonomy and belonging.
Voice Select takes a different approach. The app allows people with hearing aids to selectively choose which voices they want to hear: individually, discreetly, and without additional devices. Two main screens support the users: a selection screen for pre-choosing voices and a conversation screen for real-time adjustments. This way, technology adapts to people, not the other way around. Instead of masking technical shortcomings, the design creates freedom of choice and shows how inclusive communication can look in the future.
