Verantwortungsvolles Produktdesign am Beispiel der nachhaltigen und nutzerzentrierten Neugestaltung des Asthma-Inhalators

The “INSPIRE” inhaler system focuses on circularity, user-specific needs, and closing information gaps for patients. In cooperation with asthma patients and medical professionals, core problems of the most frequently used inhalers were identified: A lack of recycling options results in casings and propellant-containing cartridges ending up in household waste, while repetitive application errors during inhalation due to a lack of education hinder therapy. As a solution, a new inhaler and app design was developed as part of a bachelor’s thesis. Both components function as services that offer a sustainable, ergonomic, and visually appealing experience. The app closes knowledge gaps regarding use and disposal, while the inhaler has been optimized to be circular. As a Sustainable Product-Service System, the responsibility for disposal thus remains with the manufacturers instead of the users.
