TypoTease

Description

The work TypoTease focuses on pole dance as an example of sexualised forms of expression. Using artificial intelligence, a typographic translation of the topic was developed. It confronts viewers with their own normative ideas of body, sexuality, and beauty.
The resulting visual stimuli are compiled in a reinterpretation of the traditional lexicon, linking them to all terms associated with pole dancing. What initially appears to be a marginal topic thus offers an accessible approach to overarching concepts addressing issues such as morality, power relations, and permissiveness, while also incorporating determining fields such as dance theory, feminist positions, or sex work.
The result is a medium that does justice to the subject with sensitivity and unfiltered directness. We encounter a mix of constructed aesthetic choices and seemingly random elements.
