Description

“The Stripe Chair” focuses on upholstery fabrics and gives them a new meaning. The interdisciplinary exchange between industrial and textile design has given rise to a new approach to active design with textiles in the interior sector. The textile is not only chosen for the furniture, but is also the starting point for its design. The theme of stripes is reflected in the pattern and weave of the fabric developed and forms the basis for the upholstery system, which is itself made up of stripes. A simple tubular metal frame acts as a playground for the covered foam strips, which can be woven in three-dimensionally to transform the chair into an armchair.  As the materials are not permanently bonded, they can be easily separated and recycled. Textile constructions were the main inspiration for this reversible upholstery system.
